Dr Laurence Clarke using DNA to identify life

Written by

Ex Lab member Dr Laurence Clarke has been on the Kerguelen (k)-Axis Marine Science Voyage aboard the Aurora Australis for about 6 weeks now. He was collecting samples to barcode marine life and wrote a guest blog about his research here.

There is also a news feature on the Australian Antarctic Division web site.

Unfortunately the ship broke its moorings in a blizzard last week and so all the expeditioners are now ashore at Mawson.  You can read all about it on the K-axis blog.

Laurence and I went to Casey and Davis to collect moss samples together 11 years ago. We nearly got to visit Mawson station then, but then the ice was so thick that we could not get into the harbor to resupply the station.  So now Laurence has finally got there and I hope he is having a wonderful time. Safe journey home.
